Bananas may hold a key to protection against HIV infection. Lectin, a sugar binding protein, found in bananas are as potent as two potent HIV medications.  With this substance the virus for some reason can't mutate, which doesn't happen with conventional antiretroviral medications on the market.  There also might be a day when researchers develop a lectin based microbicide that prevents transmission of HIV into women during sexual relationships.
